There was a time of fierce persecution of Irish Catholics by the Protestant British where is was against the law to openly practise the Catholic faith. The Catholic Irish were interred in prison camps where they suffered slave labour conditions.
In the general Irish population a small cross was pioneered which carried all the symbols of the main doctrines of the Catholic faith. Commemorated in this chaplet is the Irish Penal cross with an explanation sheet of the symbols, in a faux vintage finish with kelly green beads.
